When she entered the cafe, she tried to look for him quickly. She wasn't planning on eating with him.
"Here Kim" he shouted.
He was waving his hands which was raised high for her to see him.
"Why is he so loud?" Kim thought shyly.
Everyone's attention already turned to her. She felt it strange with the way they were looking at her. It's not as if this is her first time she would walk into the cafeteria to have lunch. Well, it's her first time to have lunch without Barb and with a male staff in the company.
"Are you shy?" Carter teased when she got to him.
Kim gave him a stiff smile and sat in front of him.
"I thought you wouldn't come" he said with a bright smile.
" I was busy" she said.
"Isn't your boss really harsh? He is even taking your lunch time" he said rudely.
Those words didn't come well with her. She knew he thought wrong of her husband.
"No" she shook her head. "He is really nice to me" she defended.
"Don't take sides of him. He is not so good" he disagreed.
Kim frowned but didn't say anything. She knew her few words isn't the one to change his mind.
"What do you want to eat?"
The cafe was sponsored by the company. The food were the best and their staffs were always happy when they are at lunch.
The most amazing thing is that anyone at any level could eat what they want. The staffs who don't really eats expensive dishes at home, will eat and will ask for a take home. This is one of the reasons that counted the Devikings's workers lucky.
"Anything edible will be fine" she said softly.
" Don't you say you won't eat with him?" Her conscience came at her again.
" I can't simply disappoint him. Moreover, I'm also here to eat" she defended herself.
She didn't even know that Carter has been talking to her.
"Kim" he called.
"Huh" she came out of her thought.
"Are you alright?" He asked looking at her carefully.
Kim gave him a sweet smile.
"I'm fine. Just remembered something I was supposed to do before coming down" she said.
" You are already here. You can do that after lunch" he said.
" Huh" she nodded.
" So about food, you don't have preference?" He seems suprised.
Kim shook her head.
"I eat anything so far it is edible" she said shyly.
Carter thought it was because of him she said that but the truth is that Kim really doesn't have preference.
How will she have preference when she barely eats when she was still with the Gramms. Once it is edible to fill her stomach she goes for it.
"Are you serious?" He asked in disbelief.
Kim didn't see the reason why he seem not to believe her. It's not as if she as acted choosey in anyway. Or it is a must to have preference.
"Don't I sound serious?" Kim asked.
Carter thought she felt offended so he quickly apologized.
"I'm sorry" he said sheepishly.
"No problem" she smiled.
"It's just that most females especially the rich ones have lot of preference. That's what made me suprised when you said you have none" he explained so as not offend the lady.
"You don't need to explain Carter. Just let's go get the food. We don't have all day" she said smiling at how he was behaving.
She really want to get done with this lunch thing and go back to the office. She didn't want unnecessary news to spread about the two of them.
"No let me. I invited you so it's my treat" he said.
He ran off not even letting her reply.
Kim noticed that there were whispers around her. She then looked at the little gathering closer to her but they quickly adjusted when they noticed her eyes. She felt their behavior strange.
Not long Carter came with a large tray of food and placed it on the table. What suprised Kim was that he took a chair and sat right beside her. She knew as a married woman, this sitting position is not very right. She then adjusted her seat a bit.
Carter didn't say anything, he was just looking at her.
Kim made sure her gaze was on the food not minding the looks Carter was giving her. She wouldn't totally blame him for not knowing that she is married.
Because Jeff told her not to make their relationship obvious at work, she always remove her wedding ring whenever she is at work. She only puts it on outside work.
"Why so much food?" She asked to ease the awkwardness.
" I don't know what to pick so I just pick all that pricked my interest" he replied still looking at her.
Kim want to be done with this lunch so that she could go back to her work. She then started eating.
"You are so beautiful" Carter said after a moment.
