Chapter 1 Dangerously Fragile

DANGEROUSLY FRAGILE
"Your Highness, you are here."Keevah chirped.
"Cut the chase Keevah, tell me why you summoned me at this ungodly hour." Queen Aveedah inquired, her voice as low and cold as ever.
"Oh Vee,you know me, I won't alarm you for nothing, something has happened, something we have never witnessed." he paused, enjoying her growing anxiety.
Queen Aveedah furrowed her eyebrows, recognizing Keevah's game of suspense, she quietly sat down on a nearby chair, crossed her legs, surveyed her surrounding, from the neat bed to the stack of books on the shelf, the untouched tray of food, footwear's neatly arranged below the shelf and then the wildly grinning handsome man adjacent to her, his dark eyes full of mischief and fatigue, his unkept hair showed every sign of endless study and weariness.
"What have I not seen in my 73 years of living?" She asked calmly though the challenge in her voice could not be missed.
Keevah chuckled and replied
"You just barely became an Adult Vee, there's a lot more to see in this world."
"Tell me already Keevah." Queen Aveedah groaned, her impatience taking over.
"I saw this coming." He replied, still smiling.
"A prophecy have been made by the gods." he said carefully.
" A prophecy?" Queen Aveedah asked, her surprise evident.
"They still do that?" She asked.
"The last time a prophecy was made was 400 years back even before the birth of the late King Moorah, something big is about to happen Vee, and the most alarming thing here is the prophecy just points at a light and .. Or better still come with me so you can see it for yourself." He said, standing up from where he was sitting.
Queen Aveedah stood up, allowing him lead the way. They crossed the east wing, made for the sorcerers chambers then made for the prophecy room and behold, a new prophecy engraved on the wall and this time it seems the gods are in the mood to play games, the prophecy was just a bulk of signs and a really bright engraving obviously the shape of a  person then a dark one below it, others followed too but the only written words below it read:
                        BEWARE.
                      ***********

"Good day to you all." Velaine greeted,a warm smile on his face
"Good day." A low murmuring was heard.
Velaine opened his shop where he sold food supplies.
" Give me a bag of rice." a weak voice ordered as an old woman wearing a cloak and a hood covering most of her eyes stretched out 3 gold coins.
Velaine took the Gold coins and handed her 5 bronze coins known as ridah.
"It is 2 gold coins and 10 ridah for a bag." He said.
Velaine brought out the bag and gave it to the woman, who with great effort lifted it.
"Ma'am, let me help you with that, just give me a moment to close my shop, Velaine said rushing to close his shop, he came back and effortlessly lifted the bag mounting it on his back .
" Thank you my boy, but I live really far from here, its on the outskirt of Pandeen and this is the heart of  Pandeen, can you make the journey?" She asked almost pleading.
"No worries Ma'am,I'll take you to your doorstep." he replied cheerfully.
"Thank you my boy, I truly appreciate your kindness son." She appreciated, happiness evident as she grinned displaying her crooked teeth, her wrinkles even more evident.
" Here we are, thank you so much." The old woman announced breathing heavily.
Velaine dropped the sack in front of the door, then used the hem of his cloth to wipe his sweat.
"Here you go ma'am, I will be on my way now." he said turning to leave.
"Oh child, allow me to offer you a cup of water, you have travelled a long distance." the old woman said as she made for the door to her house .
"No ma'am, I truly appreciate but don't bother, you need to rest too." He replied smiling bowing his head slightly.
"Okay my child, but do me a favour and extend extend you hand." The old woman instructed as she handed her hand to him, Velaine extended his hand to her obviously puzzled by the request but so as not to hurt her, he quietly did as she said.
She closed her eyes slowly and moments later her eyes flew open and her hand fell to her side .
"Velaine Rado, in all my 172 years of  living, I have never seen a heart that is as pure as yours, human kindness is represented by so many things. Stones, trees and so many other symbols depending on how firm it is in you. Yours is like a farm full of hay of kindness, and this is an object of concern. Hay can easily be burnt by the flames of evil and infact it will serve as fuel to the flames. She paused to catch his reaction but she found nothing.
She may have expected surprise or fear but there was nothing on the man's face.
"You may leave, take care of your heart." she concluded, her eyes downcast and a faraway look in them.
'I hope he doesn't stumble upon even a harsh weather, for if the fire starts,I'm afraid, even what caused the fire wouldn't be able to quench it.'
Velaine walked away an eerie smile on his face.
'If only you showed up 273 years ago, that night, that tragic night..'
