Eryna dropped out of school and looked around for part time jobs as she was going to look after herself from now on. Her life was getting darker and darker every passing day. She had nowhere to go, no place to call home. Eryna grew weaker and weaker and one day while looking for a job she passed out on the street. Once she woke up again, she found herself in the hospital. Her whole body was aching and most of all her stomach area was burning. She was thirsty and looked around for water. “Water…(cough)” she started coughing severely and a nurse ran over to her, gave her water and laid her back in the bed. When Eryna was finally in her senses completely she spoke. “Why am I here? Can I go?” She spoke in a hoarse voice. “No, the doctors have strictly ordered you to rest— and could you give me any contact information about your family? It’s urgent we need to talk to them,” she asked with a serious voice. Eryna’s eyes watered when she heard the word family from her lips, the tear rolled down her eyes and soaked into the white bedding as she shook her head in denial. “They are dead—“ She replied with a trembling voice. The nurse looked at her for a few seconds and then gave a light nod. “Okay, then I will wait for the doctors instructions, I can’t tell you anything without discussing with them, rest well,” The nurse voice had a hint of sadness when she spoke, The nurse closed the door behind her leaving her alone in the room. “Doctor Matt, May I come in?” The nurse stood beside the doctor's office with a complicated expression. “Yes come in!” The doctor who looked like he was twenty three, wore a black shirt and matching black pants. His overall was placed on the back of the revolving chair. He had black hair with a pair of brown clear eyes that looked tired. “What happened? Did you get the contact information of the patient?” He asked with a low and calm voice. “The thing is...she doesn’t have anyone, she said they were dead,” the nurse replied. “Oh!” Matt looked away and twitched his lips a bit, trying to figure out something. “What should we do? Are we going to send her away because she can’t pay the treatment fee?” The nurse looked very sad at this. “Sigh! We can’t do anything for her, there are hundreds of people who are suffering we can’t help everyone!” Matt replied softly, he wanted to help but he couldn’t get his head straight for a while. “Okay! Don’t help her, and don’t talk to me after you have sent her away, you douche bag,” Valerina stomped her foot on the floor and walked away. “Valerina! Wait, I will try my—(bang)” he was cut in his sentence as the door closed with anger, Matt looked flustered at Valerina’s threat. For a few days Eryna was kept under observation, and she wasn’t told what was going around her, Valerina (the nurse) would come to her occasionally and would ask her about her health. Eryna was getting more and more curious for what was going on, “Can you tell me when I am going to get discharged?” Eryna asked her when she was changing the flowers. “Sigh! You can’t leave now, but I am sure you will once you are healthy again,” Valerina smiled. “Am I sick now?” Eryna asked. “Yes, today after the doctors have discussed about your condition, they will let you know what is going on,” Valerina was talking when Matt walked in through the door. “You are awake, that’s great,” he spoke with a low voice. “When can I leave the hospital?” Eryna spoke bluntly. “That!—I am here to tell you something,” He twisted his fingers and spoke with a reluctant tone. “What is it?” Eryna felt the pain in her stomach area grow because of the suspense. “You have cancer—“ he said. Eryna sat there like a rock, she had no reaction. It looked like she was trying to get the words inside her head. “What.” She asked. “You don’t have to worry, it’s in the second stage. You can be cure. And also you don’t have to be worried about the treatment fee, I have discussed it with the board members and they are donating for your treatment,” Matt tried hard to make her feel better but Eryna was staring at him with a blank gaze. “Eryna! It’s going to be okay!” Valerina spoke in a convincing tone. “I want to sleep, I feel sleepy,” Eryna muttered like a zombie and turned away. “Okay, you can rest, let’s talk about it tomorrow,” Valerina spoke and dragged Matt out of the room, Eryna lay down on the bed crying all night, cursing her life because she was having such a tough time, the only thing she could think of was negative thoughts. And with those bitter thoughts she fell asleep, Eryna grew more and more distant, she talked less while occasionally drifting into thoughts, the doctors visited her occasionally and took blood samples to conduct tests, Valerina would come by and cheer her with snacks and anything sweet she could find in the hospital. “Eryna, the sun is bright today! Do you want to go for a walk?” Valerina looked out of the window and asked. “No—I am okay here,” Eryna mumbled. “Are you worried about the treatment?” Valerina walked closer to her and stroked her hair lightly. “Hm…” Eryna nodded. “It’s going to be okay, you are going to be fine, you are so young you can fight it off so easily,” Valerina encouraged her. “I will?” Eryna looked up at her with hope. “Why not! Now from now on only think’ about hood stuff. Don’t let the negativity harm you,” Valerina stroked her head and smiled at her. Eryna blinked a few times as she couldn’t believe that someone who was a complete no one to her felt bad for her, so how come her own father couldn’t see her suffering.
