‘Clap-clap
“Everybody! Can I have your attention, please?” A tall lady spoke in a loud clear voice.
The workers sitting in their cabins slowly popped their heads out and looked at the woman with respect.
“Okay! This is Renya,” she pointed towards Eryna who stood a feet away from her.
“She is the new intern, Would you like to introduce yourself?” She asked Eryna who was not looking so good, her complexion was pale.
“No-I am good,” she shrugged her shoulders.
“Okay, so this is your cabin and be sure to get along with your seniors,” she gave a warm smile and walked away. The workers seemed least interested in her so they went back to their cabins and started Working again.
‘Sigh! This place is so spooky, it’s nothing like my previous office, look at these colourless walls and—what’s up with the dull environment—Gosh!! Get me out of here…’ Eryna looked around the office with displeased expressions.
She dragged the seat and sat by the table, it had some monochromatic sticky notes with a computer, A bunch of files lay at the side leaving a little space for her to put her hands on. There were glass barriers between the cabins.
“So what should I do now?”Eryna peaked around and saw everyone working with serious looks on their faces, Eryna looked back at the table and picked up a pen and a piece of paper. She started scribbling because she had nothing else to do.
“Hi!!”
Eryna jumped in surprise when she heard an energetic voice from behind her. She slowly looked around and saw a girl with round black eyes and clear white skin. She had a small face with black bangs falling on her forehead. Her rest of the hair was tied into two braids that laid on her shoulder each. Eryna was still overcoming her shock when the girl spoke up again.
“I am Zukey Cruz, I too am an intern here,” she held her hands in the air for a hand shake, Eryna glanced at her hand and back at her face and then she slowly shook her hand.
“I am Renya, nice to meet you,” She spoke awkwardly.
“I am so excited!! Finally I will have a friend in the office,” she jumped lightly in excitement.
Eryna gave a smile to her at her words.
“You! What are you doing there? Get your lazy ass back here!!”
While Eryna was in the conversation with the girl named Zukey another shrilling voice interrupted her. Zukey’s facial expressions paled out and she gasped while turning around quickly.
“I am sorry! I was just on my brea-“
“Shut up! I don’t want to hear those stupid excuses,”
The lady who was about twenty eight years old, waved the file in her hand angrily while continuing to embrace Zukey. Eryna could see her stealing her gaze from the people who were listening to her sharp words. Unlike before right now almost everyone was keen to see how the scenario would unfold. They seemed as if they were watching a movie in the theatre.
“I give you half an hour! Get this done or you know what is going to happen!!”
‘Slap-
The papers of the file flew in every direction as it hit Zukey’s cheek. The lady with a tight black dress and high heels walked away with an arrogant look leaving Zukey in utter embarrassment.
‘What is this? Is this how an office is?’ Eryna looked shocked, she pushed her seat backwards and walked up to Zukey, she slowly lifted the papers for her and placed them back in the file for her.
“Here! I have picked them up! Let’s sit somewhere,” Eryna pulled onto her shirt while glancing at the woman walking away like a model during catwalk. Zukey breathed lightly and her eyes gave a shine, a tear rolled down her cheek.
Eryna was speechless for a moment, she pulled her away from the scene and brought her to the cabin. She seated her while pulling another chair from the side.
“Zukey? Right! Let’s work together… You can teach me,” Eryna smiled.
“Huh?” Zukey looked at Eryna with blank eyes.
“Let’s start working,” Eryna repeated.
“Oh! Yes, let’s work,” Zukey looked away and grabbed the file. She started to flip the pages while clearing her tear filled eyes. Eryna did know anything Zukey was doing but she kept her a company for as long as she did her work,
About an hour later when Zukey seemed to have finished her work, she looked at Eryna with thankful eyes.
“I will bring this to the manager,” She shuttered while speaking.
“Let me do it, “ Eryna took the file of her grasp.
“No- “
“It’s okay—where is the office by the wAy,” Eryna looked around while speaking. Zukey replied with an almost inaudible voice.
“That way,”
“Okay thanks, I will be back in a minute and then we can go for lunch,”
Eryna had heard the grumbles in Zukey’s stomach a while ago, and she too was hungry.
“Okay,” Zukey replied in a small voice, and directed Eryna to the manager’s office.
Knock,knock,knock
“Come in,” the voice of the lady from a while ago spoke up. Eryna opened the door slowly and entered the room holding the file across her chest.
“What is it?” Her attitude was way too unprofessional, she acted as if she was some sort of a gangster.
“This file, that you asked for a while ago,” Eryna placed it on the table beside her name plate where the words “Scarlet Johnson” were written with black bold letters.
“Who are you? And why are you bringing it instead of that intern,” She snorted and asked.
“I am the new intern, I am trying to learn so I decided to bring it to you instead of her,”
“Oh! So you think you can do whatever you want here?” She started overreacting.
‘What is wrong with her? Did she eat fireballs?’ Eryna’s eyebrows twitched as she tried to understand the language she was speaking.
“No,I am just— “
“Okay fine, then,Complete this project by tomorrow morning and submit it to me,” the lady threw a huge file towards Eryna and sat back in her chair with a satisfied expression.
‘Sigh! Guess this is my first test,’ Eryna picked up the file and turned around to walk out of the room when Scarlet spoke up again.
“What is your name by the way?”
“Ren—“
“No need to tell me, I don’t care about people like you anyway.”
‘What the—she is really nuts!! I want to teach her a lesson but I can’t—‘ Eryna clenched her teeth and walked out of the room.
