Chapter 10 vampire covens

“A promise to mom? You know my mother?” I asked feeling a bit emotional. I can’t help it. He just mentioned my mom. He knows her. Maybe he can answer my questions.
“ Yes, I do. In fact, I’ve known her for years!! She was my mentor. That’s before she married your dad.” He said, adding the part about dad with a little bit of spite. I bet the whole Vampire family was against their relationship. Wait, did he just say he has known mom since before her marriage to Dad? How old is he?.
“300. My birthday is a week from now.” He replied to my thoughts.
“What?!! Did you just say 300?” I asked stopping abruptly. He looks freaking 18. But If he’s 300 years old, how old is mom!
“About two thousand,” he replied to my thoughts again nonchalantly. This time I couldn’t say a word. I opened my mouth widely and stared at him in shock! What the heck did he just say! Mom is two thousand years old? And she got married to my dad??? He’s in his forties! How long do Vampires live?.
“Well technically, we don’t die. Except if stabbed with a weapon made of silver. Like the knife, your mom was stabbed with.” He replied once again to my thoughts. I think I’m starting to get used to this.
“ So, Kara, you said you would like to know what’s going on?”.
“yes! I thought I made it clear” I said.
“Okay...” he said as if hesitating to continue.
We walked for about five minutes in silence, before he finally started.
“ the black coven and the white coven Vampires.”
“What?” I asked, totally lost.
He took a deep breath before saying “ just be patient Kara, you’ll understand everything with Time.”
“ The two Major Vampire covens are the white and black coven. 'coven literally means clan'”. He added.
“so, what has this got to do with what’s going on with me Nathan?”. I asked stopping him. No, offense but all I want to know is why a bunch of Vampires are after my life.
“Correction Kara, they are after your mom and Kendra’s life. For some reason, the prince wants you alive.” Nathan said interrupting and replying to my thoughts.
“Why ?” was the only thing I could say.
“ that, I do not know. But what I know is you will be able to understand things only if you’re patient enough to listen.” He said in a serious tone. I didn’t reply, but I’m sure he took my silence as approval, thus, he continued.
“Although they are other Vampire covens, the white and black coven are the strongest. Only their opinions matter. And when things get rough between them, it affects the whole Vampire creation.”
“ for centuries, there has been a war going on between them. No one knows the exact reason, or how it started. Young Vampires like myself were born in the war era.”
“So, who’s the good guy and who is the bad guy,” I asked childishly. Though, I was damn serious.
“There’s no bad guy to be precise. The white coven although are considered the less destructive Vampires. They don’t mind living in peace with humans. Some of them are even against drinking human blood. Using animal blood as their alternative. The black coven members are the care free, nonchalant, and undisciplined types. They detest humans. And every other creature. They don’t mind spreading havoc.” Nathan said.
He then stood still in a particularly odd position. As though summoning something. A hole appeared in the ground, and just like that, without a warning, he dragged me into the whole.
.
It was deeper than I thought. It was also really dark. This made me guess that Vampires could see clearly in the dark. Like when we were in the cottage with Max, he walked around the place as though, it was day time. I, on the other hand, couldn’t see a thing.
.
“ Your grand father was a member of the white coven Vampires. He was a soldier and was really trusted by the king during his time.” Nathan continued without warning. I was a bit startled at the mention of my grand father. I had a lot of questions but chose to keep quiet and listen to what he had to say.
“ Your grand mother, on the other hand, was from the black coven Vampire.
How they met and fell in love, I do not know.
When they met though, their love was rejected because of the war between both covens. Your grand parents were both really stubborn. They insisted on their relationship and decided to leave their covens and live among humans.”
“Both Covens were against it. The white coven king accepted your grand father’s decision out of respect. He gave him two precious ancestral crystals. It was really precious and one of the most favored treasures of the white coven Vampires. It was believed to have the power of protecting both vampires and humans from being tracked or attacked by evil creatures.”
I didn’t say a word after Nathan said this.
“We are here!,” he said raising his hands as if he has accomplished something. He had that crazy attractive yet annoying smirk plastered to his face.
“We are?” I asked with a mixture of anger, depression, tiredness, and frustration. Where are we! We have been walking in this freaking dark hole and all of a sudden he says ‘we’re here!' I feel like we’ve been in the same spot since we entered this freaking hole. I gazed at him, knowing clearly that he knows what’s going on in my head but was purposely ignoring me!. That smirk was still there and it added to my anger. I’m human for crying out loud! I don’t have the power to see in the dark or any of their strengths.
“Calm down princess. You need to work on your temper”. He added. Annoying me more.
“Ohhhh, it’s princess now. What Happened to beautiful?”. I asked sarcastically.
“Come on, stop getting mad! We are really at our first stop. Look!”. He used his finger to point above our heads. I raised my head and what I saw wowed me!
