Chapter 13 Attack

They don't have to wait long. Within seconds, the vehicles started driving through the long, narrow road.
However, they didn't go much further as the first vehicle halted suddenly due to the obstacle that she deliberately placed. It's a small labyrinth of vines that are so tangled, that it will take them at least 5 minutes to cut through. Enough to spring their attack. The remaining vehicles followed suit.
Once all the vehicles were within our radius, a vampire from our team closed the exit a mile from here, trapping the vehicles between us.
There are so many vehicles... I lost count once the mercenaries started coming out of the vehicles.
We waited until all of them or most of them were out of the vehicles. My eyes scanned them. They are easily over a hundred. A hundred of them control thousands of captives.
They are smart, she contemplated as they scanned the premises, sensing a trap. As they should. Tension is high in the air. Even the wind halted as if it might miss something.
The trees surrounding them stopped mid-wave as if waiting for her to begin. That's why she chose this location. No bird, no sound pierced the empty silence. Everything is dark and quiet, pronouncing the impending doom.
The mercenaries' frantic search increased with each passing second. The predators became the prey.
Sensing it's best to leave the eerie place, they started ripping the vines. Some used knives, some swords.
A wheeze is the only warning before Willow drew her arrow and shot at the vampire who is making progress. The vampire looked shocked seeing an arrow protruding from his chest before he stumbled and fell.
It didn't kill him but rendered him useless with its silver head. The silver will do its job by slowly weakening and poisoning him from inside out. With continuous exposure, the vampire can perish. Only a very powerful vampire can withstand the poison.
With her signal, the other sprang into action. Within seconds, chaos ensued, some giving battle cries as they lunged at her men.
Willow with cool precision, took each one out until her arrows finished.
She then tucked an M134 minigun in front of her, got comfortable, and started shooting silver bullets at the mercenaries.
They dropped like flies. Willow did a quick work of them until someone noticed her perched on the tree.
Some tried to zigzag and reach her, but her men were fast. They might be a handful, but they packed a punch.
Nearly 3/4th of the mercenaries crumbled, before Willow's gun emptied.
Throwing the gun on the ground, she followed suit. Taking out her guns she walked forward and shot at them with guns in both of her hands.
Aim. Shoot. Aim. Shoot. Repeat. Willow didn't stumble, didn't hesitate. This is her job. And she is damn good at it.
Their startled cries are like music to her ears. Some tried to escape but her group has made a tight circle around the rapidly reducing group of mercenaries as if herding the sheep.
One of her group members is badly wounded, another has a severed hand, another a hush gash at the chest...yet they all fought. Because they knew the importance of this mission.
Till now Willow was killing at a distance. But as her guns emptied, she took out her silver sword that is strapped to her back and charged at the first vampire in her path.
The group that is left before her is skilled and powerful. Her group has just cropped the fresh, overconfident mercenaries who are too enthusiastic to prove their worth.
The remaining group is nothing like that. Their eyes wary and calculating, their gaze probing for any weakness in her group, their hands rough yet firm holding their weapons, made a formation.
Their backs to each other, they formed a circle facing her group, confident in their battle skill.
One of her group members tried to approach just to face the swing of their sword. With a born jerky reaction, he missed the swing stepping back.
Willow can't use her magic. There are too many for her to contain them. And she needs it to reserve it... just in case.
Blaze, the Fae guard who is standing beside her, pointed at the weakest link in the formation with his eyes and nodded once. Noting the hint, Willow stepped forward with her sword in her hand.
Willow feigned as if she was trying to jab. As expected, the vampire broke the circle to swing at her. Blaze didn't waste time by cutting the vampire from the side.
The gap is closed once again as the circle tries to swing its swords at them. Thankfully, no one has any bullets left to shoot.
With an impatient groan, Willow ducked and swiped her leg, making the werewolf before her stumble.
She thrust her sword up, slicing the werewolf before he could get his bearing. Looking at their decreased numbers, the mercenaries panicked.
Breaking their formation, they attacked randomly. Willow whirled, plunging her sword into the werewolf's belly, turned into a semicircle, took out the sword, and clashed with the oncoming sword of another vampire.
She has no thoughts. She is just a machine strategically removing the enemy. In her haste, she missed the werewolf trying to creep up from behind her.
Before she could turn, he held her neck in a central lock, cutting her breath. Willow jabbed him with her elbow. He grunted and increased the pressure.
Sensing the chance to kill her, the mercenary before kicked her sword hand hard making her drop the sword.
Anger growing inside her, Willow twisted sideways, loosening the hold of the werewolf before poking his eyes with her fingers.
As expected, the werewolf's grip slipped. Not wasting the chance, Willow took out the dagger from her right foot and swiped at his neck.
She then turned and gave a round kick to the person before him, before plunging her dagger into his heart.
The fight continued until there were only five of them left.
The badly injured member of her group lies face down on the ground. Thankfully, his fingers are twitching. Willow signaled another guard of hers to take care of him.
She then made quick work of the remaining mercenaries, killing all except one whom she bound and gagged to a tree while her guards unlocked the vehicles and rescued the captives using the parchment Brenda faxed.
Once they made sure that everything was taken care of, Blaze walked to her. He questioned her with a raised chin looking at the bound vampire.
"I need him," Willow sidestepped his questioning look and asked, "are they being fed?"
"Everything is being taken care of. We would take it from here. Are you going to join or follow behind?" Blaze asked, cocking his head.
"I have to look where it goes. I have to find out the destination," Willow said vehemently pointing to the dark road ahead.
She can't tell him that she is feeling this urge that she is missing something. That she has left someone behind and the time is ticking.
Instead, she said, "if we miss this now, then we will never know who is behind this."
"They can't sacrifice the Supernaturals once the eclipse passes"
"Yes, but who is going to stop them from using their blood?" Though she didn't inform him about the scene where she saw the mercenaries moving one of the captives from the cell.
There is more to it than she is seeing. If only she had some clues.
"You can't stop the world," Blaze shook his head as if she was mad.
Willow chose to overlook his statement and walked to the vampire.
"Your funeral. We are outta here. Our deal is done. We are taking the captives with us. Do whatever you want to do with yourself," Blaze said to the retreating form of Willow, shaking his head. That one is a stubborn one, he thought.
Willow took the bound vampire easily carrying him with her vines to her truck that is parked to the side. She then reloaded all her weapons, strapping herself once again with the weapons.
Her neck and sour ribs gave a protest. Once in the front seat, she turned to the vampire who was spitting fires through his eyes.
She doesn't have time to torture. She also knew that she wouldn't find anything new from him except the location of the destination because of the runes. She sighed and with the silver dagger in her boot stabbed him deeply.
The vampire gasped, spitting up blood.
"Now that has been done, will you give me the answer or shall I finish my job?" Willow asked calmly.
The vampire started breathing hard, his hand near the wound, not touching the dagger.
"Well... do you want me to stab you again?"
The vampire shook his head.
"Great. Now tell me where you were going to drop those captives? And remember don't even try to lie because I can prolong your death for eternity," Willow said with false bravado.
The vampire must have been really scared because he uttered the address. Willow put the truck into motion.
"Help... help me," the vampire gasped as she parked near the address.
"Gladly," Willow said finishing the job and killing him with one swipe of her dagger.
