Chapter 29 Crushed once again.
“Bzzzzttt!! Bzzzzzttt!” Stephanie’s phone vibrated against the hard surface of her drawer. The vibrating sound filled Stephanie’s ears, and she clutched her eyes. “Errrm…” She groaned and turned on her side. With her eyes still closed, she threw her hands on the other side of the bed, tapping it slowly. She furrowed her brows when she realized that the other side of the bed was free as fresh air. She slowly opened her eyes and looked at where she had placed her hand. Her phone kept vibrating, and as she raised her head to look at the bed again, her head began to bang very bad. ‘Where is he?’ She yanked the duvet off her body and threw her legs out of the bed. She stood up, and the coldness of the floor sent shivers down her spine. She picked up her phone that kept vibrating and checked the caller. It was her father, Philip, calling. She heaved a sigh, and the awful breath from last night’s tequila filled the air around her. “Arrggghhhh!” She groaned in disgust and picked up the call. “Hello, Dad,” She mumbled. “Happy New Year, Stephanie!” Her family chorused, and a faint smile lighted up Stephanie’s tired face. “Happy new year to you all too! Thank you for calling!” She looked around the room as she spoke. Deep down, she wanted to hang up and find out where Sebastian was. She wanted to wake up to see him next to her. “How was New Year’s Eve, Stephanie. We kept calling your phone but you never answered. Didn’t you see the missed calls? Or you were too busy to notice them,” Sarah said, and Stephanie ran her finger through her hair and stood up. She walked to the bathroom and opened the door. She peeped in and couldn’t find Sebastian in there. “I’m sorry, Mum. I was with Sebastian and friends. I didn’t know when you called,” she said and closed the bathroom door. ‘Don’t tell me you are in the kitchen, making me breakfast.’ Stephanie thought and grinned widely. “It’s fine! Since you were with Sebastian, how can we be angry?” Sarah uttered, and Philip also said, “And did he spend the night with you? Give him the phone, I would love to greet him Happy New Year.” “Errrmm, dad, can I call you back? Once I get hold of him, I’ll call you back and you’ll speak to him, okay?” She walked to her bedside and wore her fluffy slippers. “Okay! We’ll be expecting your call!” Philip hung up, and Stephanie exhaled loudly. “Sebastian! Where are you?!” She chuckled as she called his name. She shuffled out of the room. She held her head in her hand because she could still feel pain. “Stupid handover,” She mumbled. She got to the living room and headed to the kitchen. Getting to the kitchen, she saw Sebastian wasn’t there. The kitchen was exactly the same way she kept it. “Sebastian!” She called again, this time with a shaky voice. “Did he leave already? Why didn’t he wake me?” She questioned herself. She walked to the main door and opened it. She stepped out of the house and stood on the porch. “Sebastian!” She called again, but she got no response. She swallowed hard as her feelings choked her. Her eyes heated up when she realized his car was gone. “Maybe he had something very urgent to attend to and didn’t want to disturb my sleep,” She muttered as she rushed back to her room again. She got to her room and picked up her phone, she unlocked it and began to scroll through it. She checked her messages and notifications to see whether he dropped any message for her, but she found nothing. “No… no… no… This can’t be happening.” She laughed as tears rolled down her eyes. She searched for his number and dialed it. It began to ring and ring and at the end it got disconnected. “No! Sebastian! Answer the f**king phone!” She tried his number again and it got disconnected again. “F**k!“ she yelled, throwing her phone on the bed. She grabbed her head in her hands and closed her eyes very tight. “Stay calm, Stephanie, you are just overthinking. Sebastian said he loves you, he wouldn’t leave you like this. He wouldn’t dare use you,” She mumbled, opening her eyes. She turned to look at where he laid the previous night, and her eyes drifted to the small drawer that was next to the bed. Her eyes popped wide open when she saw a paper on the drawer, the paper was held down with a cup. “He left a note!” She rolled to the other side of the bed and quickly picked up the paper. She saw a short note written on it, and she read it out. “Stephanie, I believe by the time you see this paper, I must have been out of the country. I enjoyed every second I spent with you, Stephanie. I will never forget the memories we shared. I’m sorry for leaving you like this. I love you, but we can’t be together. Sebastian.” Stephanie blinked severally as tears gushed out of her eyes and wet the paper in her hand. “No! This isn’t happening! No… Sebastian! No!” She grabbed her head in her hand and broke into loud and severe tears. Sweat covered her all of a sudden, and she began to shiver. She felt her heart sink down her chest and got punctured by her rib, making her heart explode in agony. “Sebastian, you told me you love me! Why did you leave me too! What did I ever do to deserve this?!” She grabbed one of her pillow and threw it across the room. She got up from the bed and stormed to her table. She flung her hands over the table’s surface and threw every item on it away. “Ahhhhh!“ she screamed as they made loud crashing noises. She fell to her knees and broke into more tears. She grabbed her chest as she felt the same great pain she felt when she found out that Owen had a wife. “Why did you do this to me! Why did you come into my life when you knew that you were going to hurt me! Why did you make me fall in love with you!” She muttered as she kept crying. She lowered her head in pain and agony. All of a sudden, she pinched her hand to check if it was a dream. She winced in pain and looked around the room. It wasn’t a dream. She was deceived again. She raised her head and stopped crying. “Robbie! Robbie would know where he is!” She sprang to her feet and reached for her phone that was on the bed. Fortunately, they had shared their contacts at the bar, so she had his number. She called him and placed her phone on her ear nervously. It began to ring, and she closed her eyes, praying he would answer his phone. He finally answered and her heart skipped a second. “Robbie! Is that you Robbie?” Her voice shook as she spoke. “Hey, Stephanie. Are you okay? You sound weird.” Robbie looked at his side and looked at Jennifer. She was still fast asleep. He moved the bedspread off his naked body and got out of bed. He pinned the phone to his ear as he wore his boxers. “Have you spoken to Sebastian this morning? Do you know where he is?” She asked in a rush. “Hold on, Stephanie. I’m lost.” Robbie stood up and hurried out of the bedroom. “We we’re together throughout the night, Robbie! I woke up this morning to find a note next to me. Robbie, he dumped me.” “What?! Why would he do that? I swear, Stephanie, I know nothing about this. We haven’t talked since last night after I dropped Danielle home. I sent him a text, and he hasn't replied since yesterday.” Robbie paced in the living room. Stephanie slammed into the bed again and clasped her lips as she started crying. “I… I… don’t know what I did to deserve this, Robbie. He told me he loves me but after we have sex, he leaves me?” Stephanie mumbled to Robbie, and Robbie felt so bad for her. “I don’t think that is it. Maybe this is all a misunderstanding. Give me a few minutes, and I’ll call you as soon as I’ve gotten in touch with him,” Robbie responded, and Stephanie bobbed her head weakly. He hung up, and Stephanie’s phone slid out of her hands and fell on the bed. “I should never have believed all your lies, you asshole,” She muttered, covering her face with her hands.
