Phase 4 “The Madness”

--Phase 4 “The Madness”--
As they neared the center of the structure, Benji picked up his pace and came close to running. The atmosphere was eerily quiet, similar to that of a cemetery, and no one was present. Two unusual things that Benji noticed were blood spattered on the wall and shattered pieces of furniture. It appeared as though a cold-blooded massacre had just occurred prior to their arrival.
“What the devil could possibly be going on?” Benji repeated the question, but no one responded to it.
During this time, Dominique was assisting Allen in installing some beeping devices in the hallway. He was completely unaware of when or how Allen obtained the items. Allen's bag appears to be overflowing with various items. He had better research Allen's history in case Allen was actually a game character come to life.
“What exactly are they?” Benji inquired while he was helping out. It was unclear to him why he had volunteered to lend a hand. Moreover, he could not be certain of the reasons why he believed these two psychopaths who had unexpectedly appeared in his office.
Allen's response by saying ‘bombs’ was somewhat abrupt. His eyes continued to be fixated on it and his hands were busy working on the device. Allen elaborated, “It'll obstruct the path.”
Benji was on the verge of yelling, but he was able to keep his composure. He came to the conclusion that if these two individuals were actually psychopaths, he would not be able to ask for assistance because there was no one else in the area. Perhaps these two individuals were in fact terrorists, and they were responsible for all of the blood that was splattered on the wall. But his instincts informed him that these folks were not crazy and that something terrible must be taking place.
“So, all we have to do is block the way in, and we'll be secure from those zombies, right?” Dominique reassured. “They wouldn’t be able to cross over to this side, right?”
Allen gave him a nod.
“No!” Benji fought, nearly yelling aloud. “We can't just block the route like this if those zombies you've been talking about are real! What if there is someone left alive?! What about Nathan? Damn it! He's in the east wing!”
“Nathan who?” Asked Allen.
Dominique answered before Benji could. “A nurse and this surgeon's friend.”
“A true childhood friend!” Benji snapped. “Simply abandoning him is out of the question.”
“Friend from childhood or boyfriend?” Dominique smirked at Benji. He thought that this was his opportunity to humiliate the doctor and exact his vengeance for the fact that the doctor had referred to him as a ‘freaking janitor’. “While you are still alive, you should make your confession to him. If you become a zombie, it's true that technically speaking, you are still 'alive,' but who the hell wants to date a zombie anyway?”
Benji scoffed at Dominique, but what he had said was true.
While the other doctor was having an argument contest with the janitor's kid, Allen was engaged in deep thinking. He was aware that there was a slim possibility that Nathan was still alive. But if he had already turned into a zombie, Benji would not have been able to handle it because they had no choice but to shoot Nathan.
“Please!” Benji was demanding that someone simply hand him a weapon of some kind. “Even if I have to go there alone, I will go and save him!” Benji swore. The sound of his voice indicated that he was starting to panic.
“Calm down,” said Allen as they were putting the finishing touches on the bombs. He had to come up with something, or Benji would just take off by himself.
“I got an idea,” Dominique suddenly said of the blue. Now that he was the center of attention, he could not help but feel a little uneasy. A small amount of remorse for having said it aloud occurred to him. “It is completely insane, and I have no desire to carry it out.”
Allen said, “Let's hear it.”
Dominique gave a short nod and then promptly swallowed his saliva. He went on to explain that, “We can blast this route to keep the west wing secure. Then we can march to the east wing to save the survivors there. It is possible for us to return to the west wing by utilizing the secret passageway that runs between Doctor Allen's office and your office, Doctor Benji.”
Benji and Allen both gave their instant consent to the plan. However, despite the fact that it was Dominique who had come up with the idea, he did not support it in the slightest. He hoped that Allen and Benji would disagree with him and probably yelled at him, telling him how ridiculous the idea was. Unanticipatedly, they are in agreement with it. Inside, he sighed and he was muttering, ‘Oh, great!’ as he followed the other two men to the hiding spot behind the coach. Allen was all set to blow the hallway.
“The explosion will attract the zombies' attention, and soon enough they'll all be here.” Allen gave a more thorough explanation of their strategy. “It'll be our biggest chance to look for any survivors.” Dominique gave a satisfied nod and agreed. Allen had come up with a far superior strategy. “We won't go into the basement because there is only corpse storage there. We'll check the first floor all the way up to the fifth.”
“Why won't we check out what's in the basement?” Benji asked. “Maybe there is someone there? The corpse there needs to be recorded and taken care of.”
Allen laughed at his own words as he said, “Because I can tell you that you'll be digging your own grave. Those zombies will turn the entire corpse into a zombie as well, and this hospital is enormous. Just think how many corpses are here…”
Dominique was confused and asked, “I thought they could only have an effect on the living.”
“Apparently not. Even the dead one, as long as their brain is still within their skull,” Allen informed them. “That is why it is necessary for us to cause damage to the head, specifically the brain. Just shoot the head.”
Benji and Dominique exchanged glances while simultaneously attempting to swallow their saliva. They had not considered those factors up until that point. The hospital served as a kind of temporary second home for the deceased before they were moved to their final resting place in the cemetery. They had no idea how many dead bodies were there or how many people were dying in this city's largest and busiest hospital.
As they were thinking about it, Allen gave the signal, and they immediately put their hands over their ears. As soon as Allen pressed the remote, the device detonated immediately. The path had been permanently blocked. While they were still concealed in the thick cloud of ash, they stood up and moved ahead. They followed Allen and heard the shrill cry coming from behind. Benji shivered from head to toe as he made a concerted effort to keep from looking back. However, he did so and he was sorry he had done it. He felt sick to his stomach when he caught the sight of the zombies.
“Damn!” Allen swore angrily as they came to the realization that the path ahead was likewise blocked by zombies. Allen managed to headshot five of them, but there were still more approaching. They muttered curses as they attempted to flee for their lives.
“Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!”
