Chapter 31 Boy Friends

“HI, Nat.”
“S-Scott...” I trailed off, stuttering by just saying his name.
He sat down on the opposite side of the table, smiling at me from ear to ear. When I didn’t say another word, he took a deep breath, before doing anything. Actually, I’m not yet ready to talk to him. And besides, he suddenly came here so I’m literally unprepared.
“Would you mind looking at me?” he asked, so I did looked up to him.
I’m being shy for what I did and being hurt at the same time when I remembered what happened down the hallway of our school. Though I couldn’t even blame him for doing that to me. I mean, it’s my fault, I guess. So maybe I deserved it.
“Look, Nat. I’m very sorry for screaming at you the last time... I shouldn’t have let anger get in the way of our friendship... And also, I shouldn’t have taken it out on you...”
He tapped my hand on the table, and that’s when I got some courage to face him again, and I saw him smiling at me.
“Would you forgive me, Nat?” he asked.
“Scott... Of course I will... And I’m sorry... I should have stick to our plan. I mean, I should’ve helped you instead of Becca...”
“That wasn’t your fault, Natalia. I know you just wanted our squad to remained as before... You’re so selfless.”
I looked down, feeling guilty. He knew me very well just like Nathan. They can pretty much read my mind, and sometimes I was wondering if we have some kind of secret connection or a telepathic ability.
“I’m sorry... I just thought that maybe if Becca got what she always wanted, everything will stay the same as before... I don’t want to hurt you intentionally, Scott.”
“Yeah, yeah. I know that. That’s what I like about you...”
I smiled at him, and I did the same.
“So we are still friends, right?” I asked.
“Of course. I’ll never regret helping you out that day when Tyler hit you with a ball on your face... Not yet, and I guess I will never.” He lightly laughed.
“Thank you, Scott. Thank you for being my friend.”
He winked at me, and I chuckled. I guess that is how Scott and I pretty much reconciled with each other. It doesn’t need to be as emotional as I imagined, just a simple apology and a gratitude for meeting each other is already more than enough. I’m glad that this issue finally ended so well between the both of us. Now Nathan is the only one who should talk to Scott now.
After a few more moments, Nathan arrived, holding two tray of foods. One for mine and one for him. Scott looked up to him, before avoiding his gaze. I could see that Nathan wants to say something even though he’s still shocked, he just couldn’t. Scott already stood up, looking at me before bidding his farewells.
“Bye, Nat. See you later.”
“Wait... You don’t have to leave yet,” I stated.
He just shook his head, still ignoring Nathan before waving his hands on me. I wanted to stop him, but I don’t want to push my luck for today. I don’t want him to be mad at me again. And for now, I don’t want to force him to stay if he’s not yet ready to talk to my bestfriend.
After he vanished from our sight, Nathan stare down at me, looking like he feel betrayed or something for I already reconciled with Scott.
“Uhm... What is that?” he asked, sitting down.
“Scott apologized... And I did the same.”
“Really? So you two are okay now? I mean, how about me?”
“Give him some time, Nathan. I’m sure he’s gonna talk to you pretty much sooner or later. I’ll help you two if ever.”
He nodded, before we started eating. After lunch, we went to our classes and for the whole time, I was thinking about how can I help the both of them to reconcile or something. I need to find out a way. Then it hit me. A great idea suddenly popped into my mind. I hope this would be worth the risk... Because I’m gladly taking it.
For our last afternoon classes, I don’t have the same schedule with Nathan. But Becca is with me, and I don’t think that she’s up for my plan. Besides, she already became a part of Freeda’s squad so I think there’s no turning back for her now.
After our classes, I climbed upstairs to the rooftop, before calling Scott and Nathan using my old, not so fashionable phone. I told them the same thing, stating that I wanted to talk to them by the rooftop. But I didn’t say anything that I’m inviting the both of them. I know that if I did that, there is a huge probability that Scott wouldn’t come in here.
“Hey, Nat. What have you eaten to suddenly called me up in here?” Nathan asked, walking towards my direction.
I’m currently standing at the edge of the rooftop, looking down at the city below. I shrugged my shoulder, waiting for Scott to come as well.
“You know, if you don’t have something to tell me, we should head home and play some video games in my–”
“Hey!” Finally, Scott arrived.
He stopped walking towards me when he realized that I wasn’t alone. His greetings even cut off Nathan’s statement. They looked at each other, dumbfounded as I smiled sheepishly at them.
“I guess I’ll just come back later after you talk to your bestfriend,” Scott addresses towards me.
He was about to leave when I shout out, ready to force the both of them to reconcile with each other now. I can’t hold on to another moment where Nathan and Scott are still not talking to each other.
“Wait!” I shouted, stepping out to the edge of the rooftop.
This is it. One wrong moved and I could die in here. Though I guess this was all worth it. I just need to stop looking down or else... I’m might going to fall.
“Whoah! What the fuck are you doing?!” Nathan shouted, stunned at my recent actions.
“Natalia! Get down right here!” Scott protested.
“I won’t... Not until you two are finally reconciled with each other,” I stated, swinging my arms up in the air.
“Fuck! Stop moving around, Natalia!” Nathan shouted, looking like he’s almost loosing his mind.
“Okay, okay! Nathan and are done! I mean, we are okay right?” Scott looked at Nathan, and my bestfriend just nodded out of panic.
“That’s great.”
I sat down, and they sighed. But I’m still not bothering to leave the edge of the rooftop.
“Nat, come on. Get down there right now, please...”
“Take my hand, then.”
I reached both of my arms towards them, and they look at each other while shaking their heads in disapproval. Nathan held my left hand, and Scott to the other one.
“Thank you, and I’m sorry for this.”
“Sorry for what?” they both asked, at the same time.
I laid down on the empty air, letting my back fell down, but my legs are still inside of the rooftop. Though I didn’t literally fall because they are holding my hands right now. I could see how their eyes widen in surprised, tightening their grip on my hand. I close my eyes shut, entrusting them my life.
“Oh, shit! Natalia!” It was Nathan.
“What the heck?! Nathan! Let’s pull her in at the count of three!” Scott shouted.
“Okay, okay. One...”
“Two...”
“Three!” they both shouted, pulling me in.
The three of us landed on the cold ground of the rooftop. I laughed, as tears started to form at the corners of my eyes. They didn’t disappoint me, and the proof of it was that I’m still alive right now. We sat up, before Nathan suddenly hug me very tight.
“Are you crazy?! You almost gave us a heart attack, Natalia Carter!” he shouted, and I laughed.
“Fuck! Why did you do that?! What if you really fall?! You could’ve die today!” It was Scott, scolding me as well.
“I’m sorry... I just wanted to test you. I mean, I know you wouldn’t let me fall and die.”
“But why?!”
“Because I trust the both of you... To the point that I’m willing to risk my everything for I knew that you wouldn’t let me down,” I stated.
They looked down, feeling guilty I guess. I smiled, before holding both of their hands.
“You’re my friends, that’s why. Trust is very important in friendship... Now let me ask you something... Do you trust each other? Nat? Scott?”
Nathan sighed, before looking up and saying anything.
“I trust Scott... Very much. When he told me that joining into the sports club will be fun, I instantly believe him, even if I’m not a sporty person... You know that, Nat.”
I nodded, before averting my eyes towards Scott.
“How about you, Scott? Do you trust Nathan?”
“Of course... I did. Specially when he told me that he’s going to help me get close to Becca...”
“So are you saying that you don’t trust me now?” Nathan asked, making him chuckled.
“I still do, I guess. I just realized it exactly five minutes ago when I asked for your help to save Natalia. I mean, I know you wouldn’t want to let her fall either...”
“I’m sorry,” Nathan stated, making silence reign in that moment.
“Maybe you two are going to reconcile now after knowing the sides of each other...”
“Sure, I guess. I forgive you, Nathan. And I’m sorry for doubting you before. I know you wouldn’t betray me. I guess it was Becca’s decision after all and not you... I shouldn’t have blame anyone else.”
“That’s fine, really...”
Nathan tapped his shoulders, and as if that thing wasn’t good enough to get the closure of this issue sealed, they give each other one of those awkward brother hugs that made my heart warmed and melt. I smiled looking at them finally together again.
“Hey, come here you crazy girl...”
They grabbed me and pulled me in for another group hug. I’m literally so happy... Having a boyfriend is great. But having boy space friends are much better. As long as Nathan and Scott will be by my side, I guess I couldn’t ask for more and I will remained contented for the rest of my high school years.
