Chapter 197 Starfall

Victor checked his phone, and a set of coordinates appeared on the map as a red bookmark. He narrowed his eyes and determined the position in his field of vision.
Tap! He traversed over a hundred feet with a horizontal leap and landed in the hot sand.
"What is he doing?" Claire asked Maverick. Victor had just contacted Drew Archibald to bring him a weapon called Starfall. What was he up to?
"Oh, he's just positioning himself at the drop site," the five-star general replied with a smirk. "You guys are up for a treat today! Expect fireworks!"
The girls exchanged glances of intrigue. By fireworks, did Maverick mean literal firepower? The young man was being vague unnecessarily.
"What is Starfall?" Julia posed, curious about the term. "Is it a missile attack?"
"Starfall is one of Victor's Trinity Weapons," Haley replied, opening a beer can. She was the only other person in the room who knew the man's history.
"The Trinity Weapons are so dangerous that they are normally hidden far away. They are brought to Victor only during emergencies like today. I have never really seen him use Starfall, so I am as clueless as you are about what kind of weapon it is."
The girls peeled their eyes and watched the streaming video. The foreboding and suspense were too much to bear.
"Drew… It's time!" Victor ordered over the radio.
"It's on its way, sir!" Drew Archibald replied.
As if on cue, the enemy's vessels began firing a dense volley of anti-matter rays. The beach was set ablaze with the deadly attacks, sending spirals of explosions all around Victor. However, the latter stood unglazed since he was immune to damage from them.
Suddenly, the sound of rotors echoed. Two Boeing Chinooks appeared on the horizon and reached the battlefield within a minute. They traveled parallel to each other, at over two hundred miles an hour. The choppers carried a strange object hanging below in a rope suspension.
"What the hell is that?" Claire mouthed aloud. "Wait… Is that Starfall?"
The spectators watched it in awe. The weapon was dark-colored and shaped in the form of a greatsword. It was so pitch black that it appeared to be eating the sunlight. At over eight feet long and two feet wide, Starfall looked more like a massive executioner sword.
"That's Starfall indeed," Maverick said, pushing his glasses up the bridge of his nose. "I wasn't expecting Caesar to use one of his Trinity weapons. But desperate times call for adequate measures. Monolith will rue the day they attacked Springfield!"
As the Chinooks approached Victor's location, the suspension rope was let go, and Starfall hurtled toward the ground.
"It's falling! But what was the need for two helicopters?" Julia asked. "It's just a longish sword that a grown man can carry."
Maverick scoffed. "Starfall is not a normal sword. It is quite ancient with unknown origins. What makes the weapon unique is the mysterious substance it is made of—Heraclite. Little is known about it, except that it is the heaviest metal on earth. Even though Starfall measures only about eight feet, it is over fifteen tonnes in weight!"
The girls exchanged shocked glances. The overwhelming weight was apparent as the weapon hurtled down towards the ground.
"How will Victor catch fifteen tonnes in free fall?" Claire asked, but immediately realized what a stupid question it was.
Clang! Amidst explosions and whorls of smoke and sand, Victor caught the sword by its hilt.
Bzzz! As soon as Starfall touched him, electrical sparks ran over the dark blade, and it glowed an eerie blue. Victor gripped the sword tightly and brought the blade to his lips.
"Starfall, my old friend," he whispered to the sword in a hoarse voice. "Sorry for waking you from slumber. This won't take long."
The girls watching the scene unfold in live streaming gasped in unison. Starfall was a wonder to look at now that Victor's touch activated it.
The man eyed the enemy vessels and smirked devilishly. He raised the massive sword to the heavens. Every time Starfall moved, it let out an unearthly reverberation.
Victor's grip tightened, and his eyes glowed. The number of sparks on the sword intensified. Somewhere in the skies, clouds rumbled.
With a grunt, Victor brought the blade down in a vertical slash.
Woom! As if the air volume before him split, an invisible beam shot out like a horizontal pillar of energy.
Zoom! The attack blasted out almost parallel to the ground. The beach sand parted and smoldered as the beam traveled towards the ocean.
Everyone stared in disbelief as Starfall's attack touched the water. With a terrifying roar, the ocean split, driving up steam spouts. Within seconds, it reached one of the littoral combat ships.
Boom! The vessel was cleaved in half and exploded spontaneously. However, the beam did not wither away. It went on to blow up two more ships in a straight line of aquatic infernos.
