I still remember Iris's birthday, it's tomorrow, but I guess she doesn't plan on celebrating because she never mentioned anything to me. I missed 4 years of her birthdays when I left and I want to make it up for her, so I planned a suprise birthday for her. Today, I contacted someone who will make her cake and arrange a catering for the guess. I didn't invite a lot of people, only her family and few friends. "Are you back together?" Jake asks me. "No," I said. "But it seems like you wanted to be with her again," he smirks. "I just want to make up for the lost time, and be a good friend to her," I replied, feeling a bit defensive. "Whatever you say, brother, you're obviously still inlove with her. Why don't you talk it out, maybe she still loves you as well," Jake adviced. "I appreciate your concern, Jake, but it's not that simple. Iris and I have a complicated history, and we're taking things slow. Right now, I just want to focus on making her happy on her birthday," I explained. Jake nodded, "Okay, I understand. Just remember that life is too short to hold back your feelings, Felix. If you love her, don't be afraid to tell her," he said before leaving. I sighed, knowing that he was right, but I wasn't ready to take that step yet. I had a lot to think about, but for now, I needed to focus on the surprise party for Iris. As the day of Iris's birthday arrived, I felt both excited and nervous about the surprise party. I wanted everything to go smoothly and for her to enjoy her special day. I arrived early at the venue to make sure everything was set up and in place. The cake looked amazing, and the decorations were perfect. Soon, the guests started to arrive, including Iris's family and a few close friends. Iris was completely surprised when she walked into the room, and I could tell that she was happy. Seeing her smile made all the effort and planning worth it. We spent the day catching up, eating delicious food, and having a great time. As the party started to wind down, Iris pulled me aside to thank me. "Thank you so much, Felix. I never expected this, and it meant a lot to me," she said, looking at me with appreciation in her eyes. "It was the least I could do. I wanted to make up for lost time and show you how much I care," I replied, feeling emotional. "I know you do, Felix. And I care about you too, but we're both not ready to take things to the next level yet. Let's just enjoy our friendship and take things slow," she said, giving me a small smile. I nodded, feeling grateful for her understanding. I knew that we had a long way to go, but for now, I was happy just being in her life and making her feel special on her birthday. "That sounds like a wise decision, Iris. I just want you to know that I'm here for you, no matter what," I replied, feeling a sense of relief that we were on the same page. "I know, Felix. And I appreciate it more than you know," she said, giving me a warm hug. As the night came to an end, we said our goodbyes to the guests and cleaned up the venue. I walked Iris to her car and gave her one last hug before saying goodbye. "Happy birthday, Iris. I hope you had a wonderful day," I said, smiling at her. "I did, thanks to you," she replied, giving me a small smile. As she drove away, I couldn't help but feel grateful for having her in my life. Maybe one day, we'll be ready to take things to the next level, but for now, I was happy just being her friend and making her feel loved and appreciated. As the days passed after the surprise party, I found myself constantly thinking about Iris. I couldn't shake off the feeling that maybe there was still something there between us. So when Iris reached out to me a few days later, I was both surprised and nervous. "Hey Felix, I just wanted to thank you again for everything you did for me on my birthday. It was really special, and I appreciate it more than you know," Iris said warmly. "Of course, Iris. I'm just happy that you had a good time. You deserve to feel loved and appreciated," I replied, trying to keep my emotions in check. "I was wondering if we could meet up and talk. There are some things I'd like to discuss with you," Iris said, hesitantly. "Sure, I'd like that. When and where do you want to meet?" I asked, my heart racing with anticipation. "How about we meet at our favorite coffee shop tomorrow afternoon? Around 2 pm?" Iris suggested. "Sounds good to me. See you then," I said, feeling both excited and nervous about what the meeting could mean. The next day, I arrived at the coffee shop early, trying to calm my nerves. As I sat down and waited for Iris, I couldn't help but replay our history in my mind. We had been in a serious relationship in the past, but it had ended abruptly due to some misunderstandings and external factors. Despite the breakup, we had remained friends, and I had always secretly hoped that we could reconcile one day not just because of Lily but because I still felt the love I have for Iris. When Iris arrived, I couldn't help but stare at her. She looked as beautiful as ever, and I felt my heart skip a beat. "Hey Felix, thanks for coming," Iris said, sitting down across from him. "Of course, what did you want to talk about?" I asked, feeling anxious. Iris took a deep breath and began to speak. "Felix, I've been doing a lot of thinking since the surprise party. And I realized that I still have feelings for you. Despite everything that happened in the past, I can't help but feel drawn to you," she said, looking into my eyes. My heart felt like it was about to burst. I had never expected to hear those words from Iris. "I feel the same way, Iris. I've always hoped that we could reconcile and be together again," I said, feeling vulnerable. "That's good to hear, Felix," Iris replied with a smile. "But before we rush into anything, there are some things we need to talk about. I don't want us to make the same mistakes as before." I nodded, feeling a mixture of excitement and nervousness. "I understand, Iris. What do you want to talk about?" "I think we need to start by acknowledging what went wrong in our past relationship. We need to be honest with ourselves and each other about what happened and how we can avoid making those same mistakes in the future," Iris said, her expression serious. I took a deep breath and nodded. "You're right. I think we should take the time to reflect on our past relationship and figure out how we can move forward healthily." Iris smiled at me. "I'm glad you feel the same way, Felix. I want us to have a strong foundation for our relationship this time around. Are you willing to put in the effort to make things work between us?" "Absolutely, Iris. I want to do whatever it takes to make things work between us," I replied, feeling more determined than ever to make things right. Iris took my hand and squeezed it. "Then let's start by being honest with each other and working through our issues together. I believe we can build something truly special if we're willing to put in the work." I smiled back at her, feeling grateful for her understanding and commitment to making things work between us. "I believe that too, Iris." We talked for hours, catching up on everything that had happened in our lives since we had broken up. We both realized that they still had a strong connection and that we wanted to give their relationship another chance. "It won't be easy, Felix. But I want to try," Iris said, holding Felix's hand. "I want to try too, Iris. I love you," I said, looking at her with a sense of hope. "I love you too, Felix. Let's take things slow and see where this goes," Iris said, smiling at him. Excited about our decision, We spent the rest of the afternoon walking around the city, talking and laughing like we used to. It felt like we were picking up where they had left off, but with a new sense of maturity and understanding. As the sun began to set, we found ourselves sitting on a bench in a small park. I put my arm around Iris, and she leaned her head on my shoulder. "I'm glad we're giving this another shot, Felix. I don't want to waste any more time wondering what could have been," Iris said, her voice barely above a whisper. "I feel the same way, Iris," Felix replied, kissing the top of her head. For the first time in a long time, I felt truly content. I knew that there would be challenges ahead, but I was willing to face them with Iris and Lily by my side. As we sat in silence, watching the stars come out. I made a promise to myself. I would do everything in my power to make this relationship work. I had been given a second chance, and I wasn't going to let it slip away. "I should've brought Lily with me," Iris laughed. "Yeah, you should, anyway there's always a next time," I said. We both laughed, feeling comfortable with each other like in old times. It was as if no time had passed since we had last been together. As we continued talking, Iris brought up some of the issues that had caused our breakup in the past. It was a difficult conversation, but we were both committed to working through our problems. "I know I made mistakes in the past, Felix. But I want to make things right this time. I want to be the best partner I can be for you," Iris said, holding my hand across the table. "I believe you, Iris. And I want to make things work too. We just need to communicate and be honest with each other," I said. We talked for a while longer, discussing our hopes and dreams for the future. It felt like we were building a new foundation for our relationship, one based on trust and open communication. As we left the coffee shop, Iris turned to me and smiled. "I'm really glad we had this talk, Felix. I feel like we're on the right track now," she said, leaning in for a hug. "I'm glad too, Iris. I'm excited to see where this takes us," I said, hugging her tightly. As we parted ways, I felt a sense of optimism and hope that I hadn't felt in a long time. I knew that rebuilding our relationship wouldn't be easy, but I was willing to do whatever it takes to make things work with Iris.
