At exactly seven-thirty in the morning I went into the office of Lady Brume. I sat near the window of this room and patiently waited for her from time to time. I glance at the windowpane hoping that Lady Brume is coming but then it’s about half an hour of waiting. Lady Brume doesn’t show up to me either and I’m getting tired of sitting.
I looked around her place and as I expected, there were a lot of things here that surprised me. Well, it is normal to be surrounded by magical things that happen. But, this place is too ancient, very rare, things that I have never seen from my Grandmother. I spread my fingers and cover my eyes with one hand.
I kept walking and scanned everything around the room. I noticed the bookshelf that is placed beneath this room and I walked forward to the bookshelf, my eyes narrowing when I saw the familiar on a shelf. I would never get wrong, that is like the book that my Grandmother reads every day, the black book and I thought that we are the only ones that have that.
When I was about to pick it up, the door suddenly opened. I freeze and stare with wide eyes and step back from the bookshelf. Lady Brume looks at me and frowns.
“Thana. “As she called me.
I bow my head, look down and away from the bookshelf.
“Have you been waiting for me for so long? '' Lady Brume questioned me and she is looking at the bookshelf on which I am standing beneath it.
“Perhaps, Lady Brume. “
"Have a seat, we have so many things about to discuss of your staying here."
I sat on the left side by side with Lady Brume. Her golden hair can say that she was too old. I can see my Grandmother to her. I concluded that she is too strict and rude but I knew that she had a kind heart. She gets something in her drawer and it's a paper that rolled and then she opened it.
"Okay, listen… I want you to be aware that staying here in Atenowa is not that easy as you think, there are rules and guidelines that you should follow."
Lady Brume explained. She puts on her eyeglasses first before she starts to read to me what is written on a rolled paper.
What is surprising is that the letter just spontaneously appears on the paper. My eyes open wide from what I saw. There are so many magical things happening here in Atenowa.
"Number one rule….Do not use power unnecessarily."
I suddenly thought of Lady Brume number one rule and I remembered the lady with blonde hair, she violated the first rule.
"What are the consequences if you violate the rule?" I asked Lady Brume. She just stared at me and said nothing but she continued reading.
"Number two rule… Respect the others and the seniors of this place, they serve as your guide in learning magic. And lastly, it is forbidden to leave the Atenowa University without my permission. Anyone who violated the rules will subject to Penalties."
"Do you understand Thana?"
"Yes, Lady Brume," I answered her patiently.
"No question Lady Brume."
"Very well."
I am standing in my seat and walks outside from the office of Lady Brume but, then, she stops me and handed me a box.
" Take this." Lady Brume said to me.
"What is it?"
"Take a look."
I opened the box with excitement and I saw a pair of uniform shoes and a magic wand. I took the magic wand and played with my palm and I swirled it on my finger.
"Stop doing that?" Lady Brume rebuked me, I stopped playing with the wand, I froze and stared with wide eyes.
"Wear that uniform from now on….and be on time in your class. Is that clear?"
Lady Brume's voice is keen and dominant just like mine, I am obliged to follow her in just one word that I never used to do with my mother. Grandmother and she are more likely to have a similar in many things. I walked forward and I looked into her eyes. I want to know about her and there are things that I want to ask.
"What is it Thana?"
"I need to know more about you?"
"Number two rules respect the others and the senior. I will be one of your teachers here in Atenowa. Should I receive respect from you? or I guess I should."
I hurried out of her office to change into a uniform given by Lady Brume. I went to the University to attend my first class. Everyone was busy training their power and they barely noticed me when I entered the class.
I sat down in the back row near to the window, I just wanted to feel some air that I think that I needed right now. I can't take it all the tense that I feel here in Atenowa makes me help to improve my ability but, I feel restless. All I want to know right now is to know more about Lady Brume. On that night our eyes met there were things searching for an answer in my mind that I cannot explain.
I just keep watching them and how they handle their magic that I can't handle it enough as just like what I saw from them. As I looked at them all of the sudden a circle and bright object appeared in front of me that almost hit me. I avoided it and hit the wall that was made of elements combined powers of the superior witches.
Those walls were purposely made by the elements and the power of the witches is to protect us and the Atenowa. The sacred place of Witches.
I looked at the empty place and I saw again the girl who has blonde hair. I just smiled and I knew she was the only one who did it.
"Hey, you, the girl with blonde hair… you want to test my ability huh?" I challenge her.
She said nothing and walked toward me. Her eyes are too sharp just like on the day I first saw her. I was wondering why she wanted to challenge me. Does she have a problem with me?
She started to form a circle and I saw how she plays, the lights and the circles in her palm. I might say that she is fair enough, but not too good. I am better than her. I flicked my finger to block those circles that were made of lights and our powers collided.
We were both stunned that the magical elements suddenly disappeared from our sight.
Clap…. Clap…. Clap…
"Amazing… It was a perfect show."
We were distracted by the voice that we heard. I looked at the door and I saw a lady who had a beautiful face and with red hair. She is not too old compared to the other superior here, she's like the age of my Aunt Salina.
" Rule number one, Do not use your power unnecessarily."
We both just kept quiet and went back to our seats.
