Unexpected 44: Interview

Because these past few days, Zandy has always been messing with my mind, I forgot about the meeting Sir Troy and I had with that anonymous person that I had to interview. Until now I still have no idea who that man is and if I do meet him, I don't know how to talk to him. I didn't even do a background check on that person to get an idea of what kind of person he is.
This morning, I received a message from Sir Troy to remind me of that meeting with that person. He said he would pick me up at home, around six o'clock in the evening. I was even surprised because I had forgotten about it. Also, I should take a break now because it's only been a week so my salary should have an additional.
This afternoon, Zandy left and will probably meet with Ton again. He always meets with that man and when he's at home, he's often in the room or on the terrace with his laptop in front of him like we're like air to each other.
Because I also wanted to leave the house, I made myself ready early. I wore a simple knee-length floral dress and let my hair down. I feel like I'm drowning every time Zandy and I are alone at home. I was restless as if someone was whispering to me to talk to him.
I left my room holding the color cream porch. I fixed my hair and tucked it behind my ear.
As I was going down the stairs, I was slightly surprised to see Zandy looking at me seriously. I suddenly felt nervous as if spots were running through my chest. Everything around me seemed to slow down because of the way he looked at me.
I didn't say a word while going down but my eyes were still on him and he was on me until I got down. I saw him blink.
"Why you're beautiful—I mean why are you dressed up?"
I calmed myself with the strange feeling that came to life inside me because of his looks. "Why, should you be the only one who can go out and date?" I asked again. "Of course, I should too," I added.
Zandy frowned. "Date? You're going on a date and with whom?" He couldn't hide the surprise in his voice.
I smiled at him. "Secret, as long as I have a date tonight," I pretended to say excitedly. "Aren't you going to tell me to enjoy myself? To make the most of the night with him? Or any message?" I said
Zandy grinned. He put his hand in the pocket of the pants he was wearing. "Ok, enjoy the night, Miles," he smiled and then walked away.
I frowned and inhaled. Won't he even stop me? Wait? Why am I telling him that I have a date as if I am jealous of him? Hey! I stomped and turned to Zandy in annoyance. Did he even say anything to me?
It was good and just then I heard the doorbell from outside and I knew it was Sir Troy. I turned back to where Zandy was coming from with a trace of annoyance on his face before storming out of the house.
"Good evening, Sir Troy," I greeted with a smile as I opened the gate for him.
"Good evening, Miles, you look ready. So, let's go?" he came back to me and looked at me from head to toe for a while. He smiled at me before walking to his car and opening the car door for me.
"Thank you, Sir," I said before getting into the car.
Later, Sir Troy got into the driver's seat, then slowly started the car. He was quiet while driving.
"You don't need to feel nervous, Miles act normal, ok? Just ask basic questions and that's it."
I turned to Sir Troy. I nodded to him. "I can't help but think about who he is. What is his purpose to be unknown? And why does he want me to interview him? Is he ugly or a shy type of person?" I asked curiously.
"I don't know either, Miles I just do what he requested," replied Sir Troy casually. "But I know he knows you, Miles."
That man probably knows me because he chose me to interview him. I frowned. What is his intention? I didn't ask anymore because I knew Sir Troy didn't know the answer either.
A few minutes passed before the car stopped in front of a building. I frowned when I noticed the place. The height of that building is staggering. Does that mean, the person I'm going to interview is the owner of this big company?
"Are we here, Sir Troy?" I asked him when I got out of the car.
He smiled and nodded. "Yeah, we're here, Miles," he answered.
"I thought it was a dinner meeting?" I'm still curious.
"Yeah, dinner at his company. So, shall we?"
I didn't say a word. Sir Troy extended his hand into the building. My face is still stunned. I had no idea that any man's company was this big and I couldn't understand why I felt a connection with that person. Who is he?
I stepped into the big building and with every step I took, I felt nervous and a strange feeling as if I knew what I was about to face.
We boarded the elevator and Sir Troy pressed it to the 20th floor. I was silent while it started. I don't know what to think or if I should even think about who I'm going to face, but I can't help but feel nervous and tense. I feel like I just want to go back home.
Later the elevator opened. Sir Troy went out first and I quietly followed. I even wet my lips, feeling that the lipstick I put there was drying and fading due to nervousness.
"Hello, Sir, Ma'am this way please," said the beautiful woman who greeted us opposite a door. I smiled at the woman and so did Sir Troy. She opened the door and Sir Troy walked in first.
I saw Sir Troy nod to the woman and then she left. I immediately looked for whoever was there. My eyes fell on the man facing outside, on a large glass window while he had his cell phone to his ear and was talking to someone.
I was like a statue in bulk when I saw who he was. He was familiar to me and his reflection in the mirror confirmed it to me. It was like cold water was poured on me. I wanted to run away but I couldn't. Suddenly everything's back to me, who he was and how he became a part of my past.
"R-Roven?" I whispered that there was a hint of surprise.
When I saw Roven take down his cell phone and put it in his pocket. He slowly faced us and his eyes immediately fell on me. The panic in his eyes didn't even show that he was expecting me.
That's why I'm nervous because Roven planned this interview to talk to me. That's why he doesn't want to introduce himself. This is how successful he is now.
Roven smiled and approached us. "Oh! I'm glad you're here," he said and shook hands with Sir Troy.
"Of course, Roven It's a privilege for our publication to feature a young and successful Director of Rio Group of Company," said Sir Troy happily, full of praise for Roven.
Director? He immediately reached that position in just one year? I know Roven and I know he is full of dreams and dedication because of his family who all depend on him.
"No, the Privilege is mine, Troy. By the way, how are you?" asked Roven.
"I'm good, Roven and by the way, I am with our best journalist in publication to interview you. As you said, I brought Miles to do this," Sir Troy introduced me.
Roven smiled as I looked away from him. He turned to me with a sweet smile. "Yeah, Miles Virgilio, right? You're still the same person I knew."
I felt annoyed with Roven. He acts as if nothing happened in our past. I grinned. "You're wrong, Ro—Sir Tuaris, I'm not the old Miles that you knew," I said emphatically.
He smiled and bowed gently for a moment. "Ok." He turned to face Sir Troy again. "Let's go to our mini bar here in our company. I know you're hungry too, so let's have dinner before we're going to talk about some serious matters," he added, not even affected by what I said.
Later, the woman who greeted us returned. "Hello, Sir the dinner is ready," she announced.
"Ok, thanks," Roven replied casually.
He was completely different from the Roven I knew before. He looks very elegant, from the way he wears to the way he speaks. He has indeed come a long way.
The shock and surprise on Sir Troy's face at what he heard from us did not escape me but he chose to remain silent.
I just followed Sir Troy when we left the room and headed to the other room where some tables were facing the outside where you could see the bright city. At the counter, there are various alcoholic drinks.
We sat on the side, near the glass wall. I couldn't look at Roven directly as I knew he was feeling the same. I turned to the food on the table. Just smelling it, I can tell it's delicious but I don't feel like eating it.
"Let's eat," said Roven. He started eating and so did Sir Troy.
"Miles, let's eat," Sir Troy said to me. I tried to smile and did nothing but eat and force myself.
"By the way, Roven, how did you meet Miles?" Sir Troy asked curiously in the middle of our meal.
Sir Troy's question almost choked me. I looked up and saw Roven looking at me as well, then smiled at Sir Troy.
"Magazines are popular nowadays, Troy, and yeah, I've read some magazines and I see there who is the journalist who wrote some of their articles," he said. "And also, she's part of my life," he added.
The surroundings seemed to stop when I heard from him and when he turned to me. There is a trace of sensibility on his face and sadness there.
"Whoa! So, it means she's the one you're talking about, Roven? Oh!" Sir Troy returned in shock.
Roven just smiled, then turned to the food. I'm just silent because I don't know what to say.
A few more minutes and we finished eating. I was still speechless as Sir Troy was busy talking to Roven who had known each other for a long time.
"Miles, are you ready?" Sir Troy asked me when he turned to me.
There is nothing I can do and one more thing, I want to get out of this company and escape the nervousness and tension I feel because of Roven. I feel like I'm suffocating and hurting again.
"Don't be nervous, it's still me," Roven said seriously.
I stared at him for a moment but immediately looked away. Why is he still telling me those things? What does he want to happen?
"I'm not nervous, Roven, I just don't want to be in front of you," I said directly to him.
"Looks like I have to go out first because I think besides the interview you have a lot to talk about."
Even before I could say anything to stop him, Sir Troy immediately left in front of me and completely left the room.
I took a breath. I have to calm myself down and think it's just for my job so I have to face him and deal with him. I took my cell phone and turned on the recorder so that I could go back to it when I was about to write an article about his life. But I couldn't speak because I couldn't think of anything to ask him or if I should ask him more. My brain doesn't work.
"Aren't you going to ask, Miles?" he woke me up because I was quiet.
I blinked. I calmed myself down. "C-can...can you tell us how did you become a successful businessman? F-from being an HR staff to becoming a Director of a company?" I almost started stuttering.
Roven smiled. He was leaning on the chair while on all fours and his palms were clasped on his knees. "It wasn't easy at all, Miles everything is not easy for me. It is not just a sudden success but a process to success. I work hard for this, I spent almost my time and effort because of my family who depend on me and my desire to give them a luxurious life," he said seriously.
I stared at him for a moment. I can see the dedication and the dream that he has now achieved. I swallowed and bowed slightly. "As a successful businessman, what did you sacrifice for your success?"
Roven looked me in the eyes. I saw sadness on his face. He smiled bitterly. "When I was an aspirant businessman, I thought that when I enter business I need to sacrifice some part of my life. Yeah, you have to sacrifice everything that you think will hinder your dream. But I was wrong to handle it Miles. I was wrong to leave you because of my ambition to be a successful person. I thought that without you or any woman in my life, I wouldn't be distracted from my dreams but I was wrong, Miles. Again and again, I regretted hurting you. So I promised myself that when I get my dream, I'll come back for—"
"Roven, stop!" I stopped what he said. I didn't realize that tears were falling from my eyes. I don't know what I feel but there is pain and happiness there that I don't know how to accept.
"Miles, I'm sorry! I'm so sorry for hurting you in that way," he said full of emotion.
I bit my lower lip. "Sorry, Roven? One year, Roven! I've been thinking for a year while hurting why you left me without an explanation! Damn! You're sorry is not enough to heal the pain, Roven. You should not have come back because you just brought back the pain I was forgetting." I stand. I took the cell phone from the table and put it in my wallet. "The interview is over, Roven."
Just as I was about to step away, I felt his hand grab my arm and he gently pulled me and hugged me tightly.
"I'm so sorry, Miles, if I have to do everything, I'll do it Miles. I know everything I'm doing is not enough for you to forgive me, but please give me a chance to prove myself again. So that I can feel my remorse. Because I still love you, Miles, I still love you and I want to come back to your life."
Tears continue to fall from my eyes. I want to get out of Roven's arms. I tried to push him away but he hugged me even tighter.
"Let go of me, Roven!" I said emphatically. I pushed him again and in the end, I was also able to break free because he loosened his arms that were hugging me. "For what else, Roven? Is it to cover up your true gender that you want me back?"
"It's not like that, Miles. My feelings for you are real. I'm not gay, bi, or whatever you call it. What you saw that day was not real," he said. I was silent for a while.
I shook my head. "No! I don't believe you. And one more thing, I'm married, Roven! I'm married and you can't come back into my life," I confessed to him. There is still a trace of pain and sadness on my face.
"I know, Miles. I know everything about you and I also know that you don't love Zandy and that you only got married because of your parents."
"What if I love him, Roven? What if I love the man you replaced me with?"
