“Certainly. Eat your food. We will see the doctor in the morning.” Instead of eating the food, that Carmine had served her, she snuggled down in her duvet and Carmine asked, “Why are you not eating your food?” “It is nauseating. I may throw up.” Now, Carmine ate her food and observed her. Meanwhile, many thoughts ran through her mind over what could be the possible cause of her friend's sudden illness. “What did you eat in the morning?” “Tea.” “Just tea?” “Yes.” “You are thinking too much, Ruby. Why not make peace with Johnny and everything will be okay.” If only Carmine was aware that such a suggestion would increase the fever, she would have kept it to herself. Ruby began to cry uncontrollably and her body temperature escalated. Now, Carmine was hysterical, and she calmed her down as much as she could. “Let me get some fever drugs from the dispensary. I will be back.” Ruby nodded and she left the room at once. After a few minutes, she was at the dispensary, and she spoke with the health worker. She explained Ruby's condition as though she was the one in need of the drugs. Then, the nurse asked, “Have you gone through your monthly flow this month?” At that point, she was entrapped. She could not provide the answer to that question. Nevertheless, the nurse ignored her and gave her some drugs to help with anxiety, nausea, and sleeping problems. “Take this, you can use it to run a pregnancy test on your own. Read the manual and see how to use it. It is simple, the nurse explained as she handed the drugs and a pregnancy test kit to Carmine. “Thank you, nurse,” she appreciated her and left. “Pregnancy test?” She mumbled as she walked along. She got back to Ruby's room and met her staring at the ceiling. “Get up and take your drugs. You will be fine.” “Thank you, Carmine,” she appreciated her and got up. Carmine smiled and helped her with the medications. While she was taking them, she spotted the pregnancy test kit and inquired, “What is this?” “The nurse said it is a pregnancy test kit.” “What for?” They laughed softly. She took the last drug and covered herself up again. “I will leave you to rest.” “It is all right. Thank you, Carmine.” “You are welcome. Ensure that you eat your food, no matter how little. Did you get me?” “I got it.” “If you need me, just give me a call.” “Okay.” Ruby slept peacefully for three hours. She woke up at 10:05 pm and was famished. She ate the much food as she could before she picked up her book. She did her assignments and afterward, she did her online job as much as she could and resolved to go back to sleep. Then, she saw the pregnancy test kit and out of curiosity, picked it up. “Pregnancy test kit," she muttered. Then, she read the instructions. (How to Use: You can do your pregnancy test at home without visiting the clinic. 1. Dip the absorbent tip into the urine sample. 2. Place it on a flat surface and wait. 3. The results will appear in just a few minutes. 4. It might show a minus sign, for negative or 'pregnant' if positive.) She read it over again and curiously decided to give it a try. She followed the instructions and afterward, she waited for a few minutes and the result showed, 'pregnant'. At that point, her fever increased, and she began to sweat. 'Pregnant? There must be an error,' she muttered. Then, she repeated the process and she got the same result. She sat back on the reading chair thought for a while and concluded. “I can't remember seeing my monthly flow last month due to its irregularities. I'm still expecting it this month.” Then, tears trickled down her cheeks as she thought of the possible mess she had plunged herself into. After a while, she dried her tears, took a picture of the strip, and posted it online. She was aware that Stanley stopped the students from commenting on her previous post because it was on the school platform. For that, reason, she posted it online, with the caption. (Happily Expecting). “Johnny, you can't be sleeping with your numerous girlfriends and expect me to suffer this alone. You will share the shame, too," she said. Subsequently, she sat back and mourned her loss. The only man she loved. “Our baby will always remind me of you, Johnny. I will shower him or her with the love you denied me the opportunity to give to you.” At Johnny's Apartment It had been hectic for him. He was coping with his parents' silence because apart from Stanley, Carmine, and other friends, he had Ruby and the new car as close companions. Now, she was far away from him emotionally. Physically, they hung out, but the vacuum that the rift had created, was there. That night, he went to bed late after his studies. When he got to the room, he felt his heart pounding as though he just had a walkout. He looked at the new bed, which would always remind him of the old one and the circumstances that made it undesirable. All the same, he laid on it and after a few minutes, he slept off. At 1: 10 AM, his phone, which was beside his bed, rang and he opened his eyes. He wondered what he heard and listened carefully. When he heard the ringtone of his phone clearly, he sat up and looked at the caller. “Hello, Gerald. What's up?” He asked with a morning voice. Then, Gerald went straight to the point with a melancholy voice, “What is the meaning of this, guy?” Now, Johnny was fully awake and he asked with anxiety. “Meaning of what?” “Why did you allow Ruby to post what she is expecting on social media?” “Expecting what, please?” Now, Gerald had himself to blame when he discovered that Johnny was not aware of the situation. He simply advised, “Check her post online.” Before Gerald could cut, he had cut and logged online and scrolled to her account. He saw the pregnancy strip picture with 'pregnant' written on it and her comment: Happily Expecting. “Expecting a baby? Why is she facetious about it?”
